Butter Pecan Turtle Cookie Bars


Recipe via Aunty Barbara Grisack

Crust:
2 cups flour
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened

Preheat oven to 350*
Combine crust ingredients ~ Mix at medium speed, scrape bowl ofen -mix 2 - 3 minutes - until well mixed and particles are fine.
Pat firmly into 12 x 9 x 2 pan

Over unbaked crust - sprinkle:
     1 cup whole pecans halved (not chopped)

Caramel Layer:
In heavy saucepan (or microwave dish) combine :
     2/3 cup butter
     1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

Cook over medium heat (or in microwave) stirring constantly until entire surface of mixture begins to boil
Boil 1/2 - 1 minute, stirring constantly
Pour over layer of crust and pecans

Bake near center of oven for 18 - 20 minutes - until caramel layer is bubbly and crust is light golden brown
Remove from oven
Immediately sprinkle with:
     1 cup of milk chocolate chips

Cool completely and spread melted chocolate

Yield - 3 dozen squares
