Khrusty - Angel Wings

Angel Wings, known as, Khrusty, or Chrusciki, are a very popular and dainty dessert specialty found in Polish bakeries, European specialty stores, and even some grocery stores. They are very light and airy, and quite simple to make. 
These are a must to eat with watermelon!! 

3 egg yolks
1 whole egg
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 TBSP poppy seed
1 - 1 1/2 cups flour

Beat eggs, add sugar, salt and flavoring
Mix in 1 cup flour
Sprinkle flour on bread board
Knead dough until satiny smooth (15 minutes)
Cut into 2 or 3 balls, cover, and set aside 15 - 20 minutes
Roll very thin and cut itno long strips about 1 1/4" wide and 2 1/2 - 3" long
Slit each piece in the center and pull one end through it to form a loose loop
Fry in shortening at 360* until lightly browned
Drain on absorbent paper and sprinkle with icing sugar or serve with sour cream
